Two Mobile Printers – Good And Great

Hewlett Packard has designed a series of mobile printers known as the 470 series. The models in this series are similar in features and price, but there are still differences. As expected, if the price is higher for a specific model, that model is going to have a few more features and possibly better performance stats. In this article, I’ll briefly review one of the models from this series – the HP H470b OfficeJet Mobile Printer.

The HP H470b OfficeJet Mobile Printer has a list price of $364. That said, you can find new units selling on Amazon for as low as $197. As with all 470 series mobile printers, there is a 50-sheet, fold-up input tray. This is great capacity for a mobile printer and the fold-up feature will allow for easy storage and travel. It can also hold up to five envelopes.

In addition to the input tray, there are some other neat features for the H470b. A Wi-Fi profile switch can store up to three different 802.11 environments, there are options for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapters, and it’s PictBridge-compatible, allowing you to print directly from most digital cameras and some mobile phones.

The minimum print size for the H470b is 3 x 4 inches and the maximum print size is 8.5 x 14 inches. It’s capable of printing up to 500 pages per month, which is on the high end for mobile printers. 4 x 6 borderless prints are possible, low ink alerts will help you save time and money, a lithium-ion battery will guarantee a longer life than the average mobile printer, and HP SureSupply will allow you to buy any needed supplies with ease.
The HP H470b is 6.45 x 13.4 x 3.25 inches. It supports a USB interface and is PC and Mac-compatible.

While all of these features are impressive, customer reviews and ratings are mixed. There are more good ratings than bad, but the customer reaction for the H470 were much stronger. That model is also cheaper. In conclusion, while this model is a good option, scratch the ‘b’ and you will be even more impressed.

Print like a Pro on a3 Paper

To print like a pro, you first need to understand color management, color gamut and profiling. Next, you need to understand the capabilities and limitations of your output device. Finally, you should have some idea of where and how your print will be displayed. Some of these topics are dense enough to warrant a book’s worth of explanation. You should have an understanding of these topics before you turn to the market to find an A3 printer.

In brief, you need to start with a monitor that can be calibrated. Start by calibrating your monitor using one of a half dozen products on the market designed for that purpose. The simplest of these is the Pantone Huey that sells for under $100. More sophisticated calibration tools span a cost range from just under $200 to well over $1000. To some degree, you get what you pay for, but for most users one of the devices in the $200-500 range will work well.

Color gamut refers to size of the color space. Most output devices, including and especially the web, are color gamut limited. Adobe Systems has defined 4 common color spaces: sRGB, RGB, PRGB, and CYMK.

sRGB is an 8-bit color space that all inkjet printers can match. RGB, or Adobe RGB, is an 8- or 16-bit color space with a wider gamut, and PRGB, or ProRGB, is a 32-bit full gamut color space that has a useful potential, possibly, down the road as output devices become more capable. CYMK is a subtractive color model designed for use when preparing images for four-color printing.

Most inkjet printers come with proprietary color profiles that are keyed to the ICC standard. ICC stands for International Color Consortium. You have the choice of choosing one of many ICC profiles or using the printer manufacturer’s defaults. Once you have installed your printer, the software that you use for printing will give you options for selecting profiles.

Light reflecting from your print will dramatically affect its look. You may not be able to predict this factor, but when you set out to find an A3 printer, it is nonetheless useful to keep in mind.

Finance Laptops with Buy Now Pay Later Programs

The phrase “buy now pay later” has long been used by retailers throughout the United States. Today, one can view many TV ads in which the seller promises “No payments until…” and then names some date about a year or more away.

Due to the popularity of this system, it should come as no surprise that one can go online and find a website that is willing to finance laptop computers. As a rule, the consumer that obtains a financed computer gets charged for 18% of the amount that was left unpaid, for the agreed upon period. That interest rate is added to the scheduled payments, once the consumer must come forth with those payments.

The reader should make note of the fact that the retailer can not raise that interest rate. It remains fixed, for the life of the “loan.” Moreover, the retailer can not expect to receive a single cent, until the ordered laptop is in the possession of the person who ordered it.

This fact underscores one of the big advantages to financing laptops. A consumer can rent a laptop, but in that case, the consumer must make the first payment even before the computer is delivered to his or her doorstep.

Still, not everyone can take advantage of the benefits available to consumers who decide to finance a laptop computer. First of all, website owners refuse to deal with anyone younger than 18. Second, they expect any consumer who wants to finance a laptop to have a valid checking account. Finally, they will not “seal the deal” until the consumer can produce proof of either U.S citizenship or permanent residency status.

Yet, a student who is 18 or older has good reason to finance a laptop computer. Many students have little or no credit history. By financing a laptop, and then making all of the scheduled payments, a student can easily build a valuable credit history. The website owner shares with the major credit agencies information about consumers who produce timely payments.

Top 3 Advantages of A3 Printers

If you are looking into buying A3 printers and you are hesitant since most of them come with an expensive tag, make a list first of the advantages of having an A3 printer. That way, you will see if all the advantages outweigh the cost of the printer, or you will find the cost reasonable. Having an A3 printer has its advantages over smaller sized printers. Some of them may even be very obvious.

Wide Selection of Paper Sizes/Types
The first obvious advantage of having an A3 printer is that you have more flexibility in the choice of paper sizes. You can print on A3 sizes, which must be your primary reason for buying an A3 printer. Aside from printing on A3 sizes, you can print on smaller sizes such as letter, legal, and A4 to A8. Most A3 printers also offer wider selection of media. Aside from plain paper, you can also print on transparencies, envelopes, labels, gloss papers, etc.

Connectivity for Multiple Users
A3 printers are generally designed to be network printers. If you checked the interface specifications of A3 printers, you will find that all of them have Ethernet connectivity. With this type of connectivity, more users are able to use these printers by just connecting to their network. There are also some that offer wireless connectivity as well. However, that is just a cherry on top of the cake. Even though they have wireless capability, they will always have the Ethernet port as well.

The last advantage or advantages will actually depend on the type of A3 printer you wish to have. For purposes of discussion, we will tackle two types of A3 printers. The first one is the type that is designed for heavy-duty printing and the other is designed for superior color and graphics. However, it should be worth noting that there are some A3 printers that offer both.

Heavy Speed and High Capacity
The main advantage of the heavy-duty type is that they offer very high printing speeds for their high capacity. For a price of $2,500, you can get the Lexmark C935DN, which prints as high as 45 pages per minute in black and white, and 40ppm in color. Aside from the speed, you get the benefits of larger capacities like the Xerox Docuprint 3055, which allows the capacity to reach up to 2,350 pages.

Colored Printing
For having the type designed for colored prints, you have the advantage of printing high quality colored pictures. This is really a great feature when you need to print posters, pictures, brochures or even a map. When printed on A3 sizes, they make a lot stronger statement compared to when printed on letter or legal sizes.

These are only three, technically four, of many advantages of having an A3 printer. Sometimes, you have to indulge your creative side in order for you to see this.

Portable Printer And Scanner: A Prerequisite To Make Your Office Mobile

In today’s technologically advanced world, if need arises to print or scan anything while traveling, the answer is a portable printer and scanner. These two are something that can set aside a lot of hassle if one suddenly needs to print or scan something while on the go. Other than this, long travel time frames can also be utilized by taking these two along. A portable printer and scanner can make an office mobile.

A number of brands of these machines are available in the market at varied prices, offering different functionality, quality and speed of printing and scanning. A number of models of portable printers are there to choose from according to your requirements. If there is a need to print different types of documents, the Canon Pixma IP90 (priced around $250) and the HP Deskjet 450 models (ranging $250 – $ 350) are available. Both these machines are capable of printing text and color images on standard paper or photo paper. There is another model from HP called Photosmart that is used for printing pictures only. All these models provide quality printing. However, if the printing quality is not that important, then there is the Planon Printstik PS905 portable printer (priced around $300) that can print from any device which uses Bluetooth technology. But with this model, the prints look like as if they were printed from a fax machine.

Apart from printing quality, printing speed and size and weight of the machines also need to be considered. Other things that need consideration before buying are – if the model includes a battery or not, if it comes with power adapters that can be used in cars, if wireless printing technology is there, etc.

To speak about portable scanners, a variety of models are out there with superior portability and OCR capabilities. The IRISPen 6 is one such scanner launched in August 2007. It is very much user friendly, supports many interfacing languages other than English and provides fast and precise scanning. There is another model called TravelScan Pro of Ambir Technology that consists of a scanner and software called PaperPort. It is very light weight and speedy. Again, there is the Fujitsu ScanSnap S300M, the smallest ADF scanner available today. It is made for the Apple Mac system. While scanning, it converts data into PDF files. So, with all these models available on the market, it is not very difficult to decide which one will fit the requirement and make mobile working a reality. Visit portable printers and scanners or 35mm negative film scanner for further information.

From Huge Machines to Small Gadgets

Gadgets have been a very important aspect in our lives and very few people are able to go through the day without using some kind of gadget. It can be the alarm clock when you wake up, the GPS you use when you’re in an unknown place or a cellular phone for calling your parents. These are but a few instances where gadgets are being used. Though it is undeniable that man has become dependent on these things, it is also undeniable that these have increased the quality of life.

By definition, a gadget is a small mechanical or electronic device specialized for a certain task. Take for example printers. It was not long ago that printers used to be those bulky machines. Today, some are small enough to be taken along while traveling. You might have heard of them as small travel printers. It is now acceptable to call them gadgets.

There are many portable printers available in the market today. Famous printer companies have tried their best to incorporate portability and durability in this very useful equipment. Hewlett Packard, Epson, Canon and other companies have produced their very own line of printers that would be very easy for the user to carry. One printer that goes to the top of the list is the Canon Pixma IP100.

Portability is the greatest selling point of this printer apart from its printout quality. With the size of 12.7 x 2.4 x 7.2 and the weight of 4.4lbs, one can see how easy it is to slip it in your luggage or backpack and off you go. Since most people have cars, the printers will normally come equipped with car adapters. Although it should be noted that it is not a good idea to leave electronic gadgets inside cars because the temperature inside tends to increase under the heat of the sun.

What makes this printer so great is that it also provides the user the capability to use it even without bringing their computer, which by the way weighs a lot more than this printer. If you have your other gadgets with you, like a camera phone or PDA, you can print files directly from them using the IR interface. If you’re a Bluetooth fanatic, you can opt for the optional Bluetooth feature, which comes at an additional price. This means that as long as anyone has their own infrared or Bluetooth device, they can easily join in the fun of printing their pictures or documents.

The portable printer is merely one of those inventions that companies have decided to make portable. Maybe, a day will come where the cars we see on “The Jetsons” animation will eventually come true, where the car will fold itself into one of those briefcases. Now that would truly be amazing.

Using Adobe Illustrator

When it comes to graphic design, or digital art of most sorts, the first thing that comes to the mind of the average person is “Photoshop”. This is because said software is very versatile and is used to create countless artistic effects. But a program that gets slightly less acknowledgment among lay people is Adobe Illustrator, which is part of the Adobe Creative Suite right along with Photoshop. So, I’d like to give a little acclaim to Illustrator, which is just as pivotal to graphic design as its counterparts.

First, I’ll provide an explanation of Illustrator: fundamentally, it’s a program that relies on vectors (math) rather than pixels. This means that it generates a much sharper image quality than Photoshop. If you’ve ever magnified an image like a JPEG or a TIF to several times its original size, you will be able to see the pixels. A better example…have you ever seen a clearly Photoshopped image where there was a white border around the figure or object? Those are pixels, and they can become distorted and crappy when the image gets enlarged.

With Illustrator, an image can be constructed using vectors and can then be stretched and constricted as many times as the artist desires. A picture can be made as small as a buddy icon, or as large as a billboard. Neat, isn’t it?

Vectors are also used commonly in a magazine layout, professional and freelance graphic design jobs, and especially for logo designs. While digital art is in demand for many aspects of graphic design, vectors are preferred for a crisp, non-pixelated image. This is why logos and quite a few web layouts always look so sharp and clean.

And this isn’t just limited to images – text can also be vectorized. The type in magazines is typically vector (but may be used via InDesign), and the text used in logos and on business cards is also vectors. This is because pixelated type is worse than a pixelated picture…if you can’t read an article, a name, or a service, you’ll lose interest and look for someone who has taken the time to make a legible design.

This is just the tip of the vector iceberg – Illustrator has several functions, just as Photoshop does, and it can produce several sorts of artwork. Give this software a little love now and then when you see a business card or read a magazine.

Cheap Laptops & Elves at Night

Migration - 265/365
Creative Commons License photo credit: tranchis

It is thought that cheap laptops are important, especially by the elves at night, you know they love to write. I am not sure why this is so. I think they also may come originally from Middle Earth, then came to Britain in ancient times. It rocked the English underworld and affected many apple orchards with new ideas and innovations. Under the spell of the silvery moon, you talk of using a recipe of ancient legend, a means of determining taste when it is good to craft a pie that is special. I would like to know many things about the recipe as I am unfamiliar with the doings of elves and the little people. I do not understand. Firstly, forth and twaddle be, are they traditional? When jumping jack and narrows slim, did the wee folk of Britain start using them?
