Camping In High Altitude Places
Posted by GuestPoster in Outdoor Recreation on September 4th, 2010
There are places in our world where the heights range above 12000 feet to even 22000 feet above sea level. If you intend camping in any of such place you need to be an expert in camping and survival at these kind of altitude. Below -50 C, avalanches, snow storms, HAPE (high altitude pulpitudinal adima) and frost bite are most common threats known in these areas. Camping at High Altitude provide a kind of challenge that only the strongest in mental and physical endurance can undertake. People who go for mountaineering to Mount Everest, K-2 or nagaparbat are the people who are expert in this form of camping.
High altitude camping involves special kind of equipment which include specialized shoes, clothing, stoves, sunburn creams, ultraviolet glasses, tinned food, ice axe, crampons and high altitude camps/tents. The weather is highly unpredictable in such places. Some times at heights above 15000 feet you are unable to see sun light for more than 30 days. One of the most difficult things is to set a wash room and off coarse how to utilize it in strong winds and snowstorm blowing all the times. At such high temperature you need to be really well equipped, when you wash your face, ice flanges may appear not somewhere else but on your own face. Small stars if the weather allows you to see would give light like a torch with a power full beam. Moon nights on a clear night are a breathtaking site. All the ice glows like white pearls. It’s a stunning site you fell like lost or complete.
The locals in these areas are master of camping and know all the ways and mean in case of any eventualities, they also provide services as porters with you for small wages. It’s advisable to keep them along. Bacon is life saving in these areas so need to be kept no matter where you go. The tracks of a fox in any of the area are a confirmation that the place is safe to travel and is not having any crevasses.
If you want a place totally unpopulated or closest to nature and you can manage to take along the equipment required there is nothing more exciting then camping in high altitudes. Make sure you are prepared and have a camping lantern with you.
Dangerous catch

Imagine their surprise when they pulled a five foot long shark out of their trap boxes. Two fishermen in 1937 were fishing with box-like fish traps baited with chicken parts. Their nets kept getting torn, and they thought that someone was intentionally destroying them, but they made a trap with wire netting to see what would turn up. And the next morning, they found their culprit, a bull shark. The only problem is they were fishing in the Mississippi River near Alton, Illinois, more than 1,700 miles from the ocean.
Bull sharks are actually one of the most dangerous shark species to humans, mostly because of their habits. They prefer shallow, coastal waters, and so frequent close to shore where beach-goers take their leisure. Also, bull sharks can be large, are unpredictable in their behavior, and sometimes aggressive. This makes them responsible for most of the attacks on people that occur while swimming.
Another fact about bull sharks is that they have a very high tolerance for fresh water environments, and the example of the Alton shark is not a unique occurrence. Bull sharks have been found very far up river in the Amazon basin as well. Their tolerance for fresh water means they can exploit this habitat which is generally otherwise devoid of large, aggressive predators.
However, before you stop swimming in your local rivers and lakes for fear of sharks, remember that shark attack is extremely rare. While they are dangerous animals, and attacks get a lot of media attention, sharks cause about 4 deaths per year worldwide. Compare that with the more than 37,000 people who died in automobile accidents in the United States alone in 2008.

Benefits of Pike Fishing Lures
Posted by GuestPoster in Outdoor Recreation on July 13th, 2010
There are many ways to catch the best fish. The most common method, however, is using a lure at the end of your fishing pole. The reasons why lures are so successful has to do with their durability, imitation of live bait, and their high sensitivity, which is felt as soon as a fish hooks on to your lure.
Pike fishing lures are effective because they create the illusion of live prey for underwater predators. The lure skims at the top or just below the surface of the water and it attracts predators. The lures are specifically designed to look like frogs or small birds. Since pike enjoy capturing easy prey, the lure becomes the pike’s bait.
Another aspect of a pike fishing lure is that once a pike bites on the lure, you will be able to instantly feel the tug and pull of your fishing pole. It is an instant reaction that sharply raises your adrenaline as you try to hook in the pike. The pike may become quite visible as it is likely to splash around in the water.
Now there are varieties of pike fishing lures. One of them, the spoon lure (which is highly recommended by www.outdooradventuresguide.com), is colorful and affordable. The lure bobbles near the top of the water and becomes highly attractive to many varieties of fish. The crank baits are useful during the summer when the water becomes warmer. Their job is to attract the larger fish further below the surface than the average lure. The last of the lures is the spinner bait. Spinner baits create vibrations when reeled along the water. With just the right amount of vibrations set, the fish will quickly become attracted to the lure and become your prize.
Pike fishing lures have a way of using creativity and uniqueness in order for you to haul in that school of fish. They range from 5 to 15 dollars for a pack and can be used at any time of the year. Pike fishing lures are a must for people who enjoy fishing and those interested in catching the best fish they can get.
