Examination of A Gourd Table Lamp

Gourds have been in use for thousands of years having come from the shape of the naturally occurring fruits after which they have been named. Used as vessels it is not particularly surprising that the shape has also been adapted for use as decorative items around the home.

Picking out a lamp base style that suits the rest of the room without overpowering it can sometimes be a challenge. If you are simply after a functional lamp rather than a decorative showpiece something as normal as gourd table lamps may be the kind of thing you’re after.

In most cases the gourd lamp base is going to be made of pottery or ceramic. It is narrow at the top flaring out to a wide bowl shape in the middle before narrowing again slightly towards the base. It’s a design that looks wonderfully natural as well as giving that free organic look. It’s a solidly reliable type of lamp that will serve just about any purpose.

It’s the kind of lamp base that can look as though it has just come out of the kiln after it has just been thrown on a potter’s wheel. The great thing about a lamp base in a gourd shape is that there is a log of surface area on which to create a really eye catching design. Whether it is a single color or a showy printed feature, the surface area of the gourd is a tremendous background.

The other kind of material that is commonly used in the creation of gourd table lamps is wood, and when wood is used it can look even more like the original gourd from where the design has come from. A highly lacquered wood finish can look particularly impressive when sitting underneath a suitable lamp shade. The trick is to find the combination of the two that are going to do each other justice.

Every home has room for a well placed gourd table lamp, they go nicely with all kinds of décor and are useful decorative pieces as well as providing a valuable source of illumination.
