Futon Maintenance

As we all know, a futon mattress is a very versatile and nice pieces of furniture. They are also very functional, able to be used as both a couch and a bed, and at the same time, cost-savvy and space-savvy, because of the same reasons. They are also relatively easy to move, and can fit into any type of room, provided that the cover is appropriate and can blend well to the overall theme of the room, as well as the other furniture within the room.

But, with all its uses, it is also very obvious that just like other mattresses and furniture for that matter they also need to be cleaned on a regular basis.

Here are some simple tips for futon maintenance.

  • Prevention is always better than cure, as to why, having a cover is the most important part of ensuring that the mattress will be kept clean and will last for years and years to come. It doesn’t matter if its futon sofa beds, futon couches, futon bunk beds and any other type of futon. A cover is a definite must.
  • Also, make sure to wash the cover every three months. If, though, it has been stained too much, or signs of old age have been kicking in, then buy a new one. This is usually evident after 1-3 years of usage.
  • Vacuum the mattress on a weekly basis. This is important to keep dust, dirt, grime and allergens out of the mattress. Do this, even if the mattress has a cover.
  • Utilize the power of the baking soda. Soak the mattress in baking soda for twenty-four hours, and vacuum it after. This cleans the mattress, as well as takes away any undesirable odors and smell.
  • Rotate or Flip the mattress every month to prevent the lumpy feeling of using the mattress too much.
