Stress can cause anxiety, muscle pain resulting from tension, anger management problems, and numerous other physical and psychological issues. Many times, until the symptoms have progressed to unmanageable stages, we are not aware that the cause of many of these problems stem from stress. As young adults, many of us are not taught the principles of dealing with stress properly. Without having any background in stress management techniques, we are unaware that failure to deal with stress pro-actively results in serious medical conditions. Left long-term, these conditions can manifest as heart attacks and serious life-threatening ailments.
Stress occurs in everyone’s life. Many times, a person’s biggest stress lies within their work place. Stress in the work place can go unnoticed for long periods of time, resulting in the misconception that you hate your work or your co-workers. Your own failure to recognize symptoms of stress can create an intolerable work environment for yourself and everyone in your environment. If you currently find yourself in this type of work situation, take the time to analyze with honesty the part you may be playing in contributing to the problem.
Before you can get to the bottom of issues at work, you will need to practice some stress management techniques to determine the source of the stress. You may discover that you are the one creating the stress due to your lack of ability to deal with stress appropriately. Certainly, after looking within yourself, you may come to the conclusion that your current job is not in your best interests from a mental health perspective.
Research the many aspects of stress reduction. The majority of these techniques are simple to apply but the key to success is applying these methods on a daily basis until they become second nature. This won’t happen overnight. You will have to be serious about learning to manage your stress at work. Given enough time, you will discover that things that used to drive you over the edge don’t seem to affect you anymore; people that once tested your patience have little to no impact on your stress levels.
