Suppress Dust With A Water System

Dust suppression is a necessary part of the manufacturing process in many different types of industries. A couple that come quickly to mind are the mining industry as well as the manufacture of concrete and related products. The creation of fine dust particles makes working on these sites a health and safety hazard so there are ways in which the presence of this dust are mitigated.

The most common practice is to apply water in some form or another as effective dust control methods. The water may be used as a preventative measure such as with water tankers making passes along a dusty road with a water spray system to dampen the entire road.

During some of the processes in the manufacturing phases the creation of fine dust particles is unavoidable and those particles are thrown into the air. They are so fine that they hang in the air for a long time, floating on the breeze and creating potential respiratory and vision hazards. This airborne dust can be controlled by the use of a fine misting system. The creation of fine water mist droplets has proven very effective in the removal of dust in quick time. The water droplets are created to be roughly the same size as the dust particles and they then bind with the dust forming a heavier agglomerate that then sinks to the ground.

The misting systems required for the creation of the misting fog use only small amounts of water and can be run for a sustained period of time making them a low-cost yet effective method. By clearing the air the job can be completed more efficiently so the company actually saves money by installing the system.

Another dust suppression method that is commonly used is to combine the water sprayed over heaps or mounds with a chemical agent that will form a crust over the top. This crust settles the dust so that it is less prone to being blown into the air by the wind.

Each method of dust suppression on the worksite can be tailored to suit the specific dust problem.
