Checking out second hand sales is one way to find old jewelry. Especially by concentrating on estate sales and estate auctions, you can sometimes find a good deal on larger lots of jewelry. Every once in a great while you may find a real “gem” mixed in to the lot that slips by the person in charge of the estate sale. This usually won’t be a glittery diamond, but it may be a piece of older jewelry still prized by some collectors. There are people who like to get their hands on old jewelry items made of a substance called bakelite. There are also those who like to concentrate on and collect items that are representative of an artistic period, like art deco. Do a little studying and you may find some easy treasure at the next second hand sale you visit.
