Treat Your Big Dog Right And Buy Him Some Dog Clothing

It’s certainly not uncommon to see tiny dogs wearing dog clothing but believe it or not, big dogs might benefit from wearing dog clothes just as much as a little dog. For one reason or another, people tend to think that little dogs aren’t capable of staying warm on their own. The size of the dog has relatively little to do with a dog’s ability to stay warm. Some small dogs are born with very thick coats of hair and are extremely capable of keeping themselves warm in all types of weather. This is determined by the breed of the dog and not the size of the dog.

A couple of good examples of this would be the Doberman or the Great Dane. These big dogs have a tiny amount of body fat and very short coats. These large dogs are made to deal with the cold weather very well. Many people with large dogs think that dressing their dog in a sweater makes them look wimpy but people with small dogs don’t think that way at all. Big dogs would benefit from dog clothing just as much or more than many small dogs. When deciding whether your dog should wear a dog coat or a dog sweater, the decision should really be based on your dog’s body composition and not its size.

One of the smallest breeds of dogs is the Pomeranian but it is also one of the breeds with the most hair. A Doberman is probably 20 times the size of a Pomeranian but they probably aren’t equipped to handle the cold as well as these little dogs. If you have a big dog with a short coat and very little body fat, do the right thing for them and buy them a few warm sweaters. Then, when it’s cold outside, dress them in a warm sweater before taking them for a walk. Dressing your dog warm will make them much more comfortable while they are outside. As a general rule, go by how you feel. If you feel cold your dog probably feels cold too.
