Blind Date Basics

If you have ever been on a blind date then you know that anything can happen. You might have even had some horrible experiences that you won’t forget anytime soon. So why do people still subject themselves to dates with nearly complete strangers? Sometimes it’s a sense of adventure that takes over people and lets them try new things. Other times people truly believe that anything can happen and they might genuinely find true love with a bit of luck. Blind dates are not all that different from regular dates and most of the basic rules apply. Here are some further tips to make sure your next blind date goes as smoothly possibly on your way to romantic happiness.
1. When you are going on a blind date, you should always keep an open mind and remember that anything can happen. So stay positive and don’t doom yourself right from the start by imagining horrible scenarios. And don’t get carried away the other way either or you may be setting yourself up for a big disappointment.
2. Keep things casual and short. This is your first meeting so there is no need to break out your best love quotes or to plan an expensive date. Your main goal should be to get to know the other person, and to let them know you. This is a great chance to just meet someone else in a casual setting and see where things take you.
3. If you are a guy, then pay for the date. If you are a girl, then make sure to say thank you. It’s that simple. You can argue all you want about who pays for what, but it’s always better just to follow this simple rule no matter how sexist or old-fashioned you might think it is.
4. Watch what you say. You always want to be yourself, but stay away from conversation killers like past relationships, politics, or religion. Keep a good conversation going and make sure to take time to listen.
5. If you feel that something is wrong, or that there is a strong impulse telling you that it won’t work out, then don’t be afraid to leave. This is why you always want to have an escape plan just in case. You don’t have to be rude about it, but if your instincts are screaming at you to end the date then make sure to listen.
