A Karaoke Machine Experience

Singing karaoke can be a great way to spend a night out on the town.  The best part about it is, you don’t have to sing yourself and if you do, you don’t need to have a great singing voice.  How good of the deal is that?  In fact, for many people going to a karaoke bar is a spectator experience rather than a chance to sing.  It’s also a great way to enjoy some popular music even if it’s not delivered from the original source.  And many times, you might get surprised at the quality of the singing found in some karaoke bars.  There are people who have their own karaoke machine at home and use them on a consistent basis to practice for singing in public.  If you’re interested in paying a visit to your local karaoke bar, here are some things to keep in mind.

1.  You never know how seriously someone will take their karaoke so it’s always best to err on the side of caution.  Don’t walk into a karaoke bar like you own the joint, and certainly don’t treat karaoke like a joke.  Just go to have a good time and don’t ridicule people in the process.  There are likely to be some karaoke veterans in the crowd who will not appreciate negative attitudes.  These karaoke regulars can have a lot of status in a karaoke bar so it’s best not to upset them.

2.  There is an important unwritten rule of karaoke that no one should openly laugh at someone else.  So while it might be tempting to mock a person who is having a hard time up on stage, it is absolutely essential to resist.  You never know who will be watching, and in the end you are the person who’s going to look bad – not the person who can’t sing.

3.  If you want to go up on the main stage to use the karaoke machine, then you should fill out a form and hand it to the karaoke DJ.  Understand that the DJ will be wading through possibly hundreds of requests to use the machine.  It’s not an easy job and you should be patient in waiting for your turn.

4.  Keep your wits about you and use common sense when it comes to how you behave.  Be polite and humble, and don’t make a fool of yourself by going up on stage and singing drunken karaoke.  Despite what you see in movies, singing while drunk is not condoned in most bars and you won’t be welcomed back anytime soon.
