In the turn of the century, clothes have always been updated due to the peoples’ demands and men’s underwear has been part of that ever changing revolution. Before, not many choices were given to men but now, a variety of underwear is being sold to stores and the options have never been this wide.

There are different types of male undergarments available with different uses and fabrics. Let us start with the basic.  First, the conventional underwear that can never be out are briefs. This one has a waistband that is usually 2 inches thick, rests around the waist with a length that covers well enough the genitals, the butt and groin and it has a Y-shaped fly. Briefs now come in varieties such as low cut or rise briefs which can be used for low rise jeans and the pouch brief as the name is called has a pouch for the hold up.

Men’s underwear can also be less tight like the boxers. This type of undergarment is loose around the genitals, gives more movement and is longer compared to briefs because this one looks like shorts. It has a working fly and is best worn on loose pants. Boxers are fun to wear because of its style and design which comes in a variety of colors and printed fabrics. Boxer briefs are a half and half of both types. This one is much tighter than the usual boxers and gives the same support that briefs do.

Men are also given the option to wear more unique types of underwear like thongs and bikini. These types of underwear are for the risky and fearless men. The thong’s garment runs in the middle of the rear and connects it to the waistband. Wearing this would give a seamless effect on the pants worn. Bikinis for men have thicker side string and looks like a brief but with a bolder design and simplicity.

Completely opposite of the freedom allowed in thongs and bikinis are mens girdles for support. These offer great support to the waist and back area for men who need medical support. Or, guys wear these types of mens support underwear for the simple purposes of looking thinner.

The variety of men’s underwear has certainly come a long way. There are more choices for men suited for every type of preference or function – whether it is for a special occasion, work out or sports activity or just for any ordinary day. Their purpose remains the same: a genital cover up.
