1. Glucosamine and Chondroitin. These two herbal supplements go hand in hand in treating arthritis and are usually packaged together. They are good for general joint health regardless of which type of arthritis you have. These two powerhouse remedies rejuvenate damaged joint cartilage and bone. Not only do they help repair the daily grind that happens to your joints, they also have complex sugars which reduce joint swelling.
So, glucosamine and chondroitin are beneficial for prevention as well as treatment. If you are going to use these two remedies, they take about a month to start working and if you are allergic to sulfa you should seek a physician to make sure you can take chondroitin because it is a sulfate.

Not only do they contain vitamin C which some studies suggest may reduce swelling, they have an enzyme that acts to provide pain relief. This enzyme is called bromelain and can also be purchased as a supplement in alternative health food stores. Bromelain works wonderfully, but if you are on a blood thinner, you should ask your physician before trying it.
3. Turmeric. Turmeric is another herbal remedy for arthritis. It is also used by some with gouty arthritis. Turmeric is also thought to reduce swelling. It has been used for centuries in Asia for anti-inflammation. Some people even use it for an anti-cancer fighting spice.
Some people may not like the bitter taste of turmeric so try adding a natural sweetener such as stevia or agave nectar. Both sweeteners don’t spike blood glucose if you have diabetic concerns.
