What Are Ideal Cut Diamonds?
Posted by Taylor in Fashion and Textiles on June 11th, 2009
There are many different cuts of diamonds to choose from. But what are ideal cut diamonds? The best diamonds are round brilliant cut. These diamonds are cut in a precise way to ensure the maximum shine and sparkle.
Of course an ideal cut diamond is not possible all of the time, which is why they are so prized. Sometimes the diamond’s natural inclusions make it impossible for the cutter to create the dimensions necessary for truly special diamonds.
The dimensions required for ideal cut diamonds are as follows:
- Table: 53% to 57% of the diameter
- Depth: 58% to 63% of diameter
- Crown: 33 to 35 degrees
- Pavillion: 42% to 44%
- Girdle: medium
- Culet: small, pointed
Obviously, the requirements for the cut are very precise and any mistake made by the cutter may render the diamond imperfect. Though not worthless, a poorly cut diamond is only worth a fraction of what an ideal cut diamond could fetch.
