Signs of Termite Infestation

TermitesHomeowners are all to often oblivious to the fact that they have a termite problem until extensive damage has been done. Termite inspections are commonplace during the purchase of a home. But, many homeowners give little or no thought to the possibility of a termite infestation after the initial inspection.

Termites can cause enormous damage to the structure of your home if an infestation is left undiagnosed for any length of time. Some warning signs of termites that could indicate your home may have a termite infestation are listed below:

– Cracks in the foundation or walls of your home. (This is the entry way for termites to gain access to the structure of your home.

– Mud like tubes (Termites create mud like tubes to commute to the areas of the home they are damaging. These tubes often run from the ground to the areas they are damaging in your home’s structure. Check crawlspace walls and cellar walls for these tubes.)

– Wing sheds (Termites shed their wings, finding these wing sheds in or near your home is a sure sign that you have a termite infestation. )

– Damaged wood (Normally by the time you can visually notice damaged wood, the damage is extraordinary. Termites destroy wood from the inside out. In early instances of infestation, you can use a sharp tool to pry at the wood to determine if there is damage inside.

Pay attention to these indicators to avoid a costly problem.
