These days, it is becoming more and more difficult to decide what article of jewellery to gift a person. In the past, it used to be as simple and easy as picking up a gold necklace with a heart shaped locket on it; these days, however, things are more complicated than that. We are seeing a lot of very unique trends affecting the jewellery market these days – for example, the move away from diamonds has confused a lot of people, not least the diamond companies. This has a lot of effects on young people who are looking to get married, because they no longer have any idea whether it is appropriate for them to put a diamond on their wedding rings.

Similarly, we are seeing a move away from yellow gold. This is quite strange, because yellow gold has been a symbol of wealth, power and beauty throughout history. The fact that it is suddenly becoming less popular is probably due to the fact that we are living through recessionary times, and being flashy is suddenly a lot less fashionable. As a result, we are seeing a lot of people moving to other metals, such as sterling silver. However, we don’t suggest you purchase silver instead of gold jewellery – it sends the impression that you are cheap. If you really want to stay away from yellow gold, we recommend thinking about white gold. A white gold necklace, for example, is a perfect substitute for one made of yellow gold. Similarly, we are seeing a lot of young couples getting white gold engagement rings, instead of the more traditional yellow gold.

Times change, and jewellery trends change with them. We have no doubt that yellow gold will come back into fashion at some point in the future – until then, however, it is a breath of fresh air to move away from it. In our opinion, yellow gold has always been a bit too flashy for our taste – it is nice to see some change.
