Kitchen Curtains: Inexpensive Interior Design

Kitchen curtains are one of those interior décor items that people do not often think about unless they are redoing an entire kitchen. One of the shocking things, however, is that instead of a fresh coat of paint or a new hardwood floor, or even different colored appliances, just by switching out the curtains can give a kitchen an entire new look.

Kitchen curtains come in as many varieties and styles as can be imagined. Valances, sheers, tab tops, pinched pleats, and even Jabot sets are available. Curtains are mostly just swaths of fabric used as a window treatment, but it is amazing how much this window treatment can change the entire look of a kitchen.

There are several ideas about buying curtains that need to be thought of before actually going out and spending money. The first one is one that no one ever remembers to do: measure the windows for length and width. Just about everyone forgets to do this, and then when they come home with their new curtains, they are almost always too long. Make sure when you measure, you are measuring from the rod, and not the top of the window, as there can be a couple of inches difference between the two.

Second, pick out a color that reflects on everything else in the kitchen. Most people prefer to get white curtains for a kitchen; however, think real hard before you take that particular route. White curtains mean you have to wash them frequently, as a kitchen is full of grease and odors that can blend into fabric. Over time, too much grease will rot fabric, and then you are back buying curtains again.

Finally, take a little time and consider the style of curtain you want to purchase. There are enough varieties out there that you can personalize your kitchen with a few dollars and a decent imagination. When you go shopping, take a picture of the kitchen with you so you can compare the color and style of the new curtains with the décor of your kitchen before you make the purchase.
